Vol. 200 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Reception.

22.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received complaints from wireless listeners in the Douglas district, County Cork regarding interference with reception; if so, if he is of opinion that such interference is due to television sets in the area; and, if so, what steps are being taken to remedy the situation.

23.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what steps he intends to take to alleviate the interference in sound radio reception which takes place in Limerick after 5 p.m. every day.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 23 together.

I received two complaints from the Douglas district which I have passed to Radio Éireann for investigation. All powers appropriate for the investigation and detection of interference with wireless telegraphy receiving apparatus have been conferred on Radio Éireann by the Broadcasting Authority (Control of Interference) Order, 1960. I would, therefore, suggest that Deputies should communicate detailed particulars of any such complaints to Radio Éireann.

On the matter of interference with sound reception, particularly interference caused by the operation of television sets, I would refer to my reply to Deputy Pattison on 28th November, 1962.
