Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Consumption Campaign.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, bearing in mind the desirability of increasing the consumption of milk and thus improving the position of the dairying industry generally, he will now initiate an all-out Drink more milk publicity campaign with a view to increasing public consumption.

I am at present considering the question of initiating an intensive publicity campaign in which all interested parties would co-operate to stimulate increased consumption not only of milk but also of dairy products generally.

It did not come a day too soon.

I hope Deputy Coughlan will play his part in that campaign.

Deputy Coughlan will always play his part in anything that is for the national interest. That is something that cannot always be said for the Minister.

It is true to say that in the past three or four years the Dublin and Cork Milk Boards have been endeavouring to do this and have sought the co-operation of people interested in the processing of milk but, unfortunately, they did not meet with the success which their efforts deserved.

As far as Cork is concerned, I suggest that the Minister should take the matter up with Deputy Corry.
