Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Water Supply Schemes.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ascertain the cause of the delay by the Kerry County Council in carrying out the Brandon and district water scheme, in view of the importance of the Brandon area to tourism.

No proposals for a water supply scheme for this area have been submitted to my Department. I understand that Kerry County Council are at present formulating a scheme for the area.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Kerry County Council erected various pump houses in the county some years ago with a view to providing piped water supplies to the houses in the areas adjoining the pump houses; and that no action has since been taken in the matter; and if he will take steps to ensure that such pump houses are now used for their original purpose of providing piped water supplies.

I understand that Kerry County Council decided some years ago to develop a number of well sources for the provision of small piped water supplies by means of electric pumps. Three locations were selected and pumphouses were erected. In two cases pipes have been laid and the question of connections is under consideration. In the other the possibility of pipe laying by private group effort is being examined.

Questions Nos. 65 and 66 postponed.
