Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Terenure Pipe-Laying Work.

95.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether his Department got subcontractors to do pipe-laying work recently at College Drive, Terenure, Dublin; if so, if he will state the purpose of such work; if he is aware that the footpath is now in a dangerous condition by reason of many holes, lumps of broken concrete and bricks; and if he will have the footpath restored without delay.

A contractor was engaged for the purpose of laying cable ducts in the area in question. The additional cables that will be accommodated in these ducts will cater for further telephone development in the district.

On completion of the work on 8th January the surface was temporarily restored and an order for its permanent re-instatement was served on the local authority. In the meantime the surface has been adversely affected by severe frost and heavy rains and it is now in need of some further attention. This will be arranged within the next few days if the permanent re-instatement work is not commenced immediately.

Question No. 96 postponed.
