Vol. 201 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ireland's Membership of GATT.

5.

andMr. T. Lynch asked the Taoiseach if Ireland's application to GATT will be pursued to enable this country to take part in the meeting of forty-four nations of that organisation scheduled to commence next May in Geneva to prepare for the Kennedy tariff-cutting round.

The position with regard to our application for membership of GATT is still under consideration.

Will our application be pursued before this conference takes place?

We have not decided that. It will be a question of considering where our national advantage lies.

Would it not be to our advantage to consider that before the conference?

We have not decided that it would be so.

Question No. 6 postponed.
