asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) the number of bulls which have been progeny-tested at all centres in the country; (b) the number found to be increasing yields and otherwise suitable for retaining for further breeding; (c) the number found to be reducing yields or otherwise unsuitable, which have been rejected; and (d) the number progeny-tested at the Dublin centre and the results as at (b) and (c) above.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Progeny Testing of Bulls.
As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it in the official Report.
Following is the statement:
(a)
Fully progeny-tested |
Partly Progeny-tested or under test |
|
(i) For milk yields |
54 |
78 |
(ii) For beef qualities |
21 |
25 |
(iii) For heifer conformation |
74 |
— |
(b) and (c)
Bulls at (i) above found to be |
|
Increasing milk yields |
22 |
Decreasing milk yields |
18 |
Having no appreciable effect on milk yields |
14 |
Number of bulls found to be unsuitable for various reasons, including depression of milk yields, which have been removed. |
57—out of the total number of bulls progeny tested or under test |
(d) |
None yet fully progeny-tested. Results of milk tests are expected shortly for some bulls at this centre.
Do I understand correctly that there are no fully tested progeny bulls in the Dublin station?
That is the information I have.
