Vol. 201 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Purchase Supplementary Grants.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now consider the raising of the income limit for the receipt of the supplementary grant for house purchase to £1,000 per annum.

I do not propose to seek amendment of the statutory provisions governing eligibility for supplementary new house grants. The determination of the income of a person applying for such a grant is a matter for the housing authority concerned. I informed the Dáil, in this connection, that housing authorities could, if they wished, make allowances for dependants, when determining income for the purposes of Section 12 of the Housing (Loans and Grants) Act, 1962. I also informed housing authorities by circular letter that they might make reasonable allowances for family circumstances in assessing income for the purposes of the section.

Can they do that in regard to the valuation?

There is a fixed valuation. This has to do with wage income.
