Vol. 201 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Newcastle (Dublin) School.

34.

asked the Minister for Education if he is now in a position to state when a start will be made on the work of extending and improving the national school at Newcastle, County Dublin.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that the preparation of the working drawings for the extension and improvement of Newcastle national school will be put in hands within the next fortnight.

I cannot say at this stage when work on the extension will commence.

Is the Minister aware that this work was supposed to be done last year during the holiday period? The position in the school is that it has only a concrete floor and a very defective fireplace, which brought about very severe conditions for infant children during the past year.

The sketch plans for improvement and extension have been completed.

Does that mean that it could be done this summer?

I cannot say at this stage when the Office of Public Works will be able to do it. I am sure they will do it as rapidly as possible.
