Vol. 202 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Veterinary College Extensions.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give further details of the proposed extensions to the Veterinary College, Ballsbridge, Dublin, as mentioned at Vote 9, subhead B, numbers 40(1), 40(2), and 40(3).

The proposed extensions to the Veterinary College as mentioned at 40(1), 40(2) and 40(3) of Subhead B, Vote 9 are

(1) the erection of a new block to provide lecture rooms, classrooms, students' rooms, laboratories and storage, etc. facilities. The planning of this project, which is provisionally estimated to cost £100,000, is as yet only in the embryo stage and it is not expected that construction work will commence until next year.

(2) sundry alterations and improvements to meet present-day requirements of veterinary education and the erection of a four-roomed extension for the purpose of teachers' rooms and storage. It is expected that this work which will cost about £20,000 will be completed in the next few months.

(3) the erection of a new Pathological Anatomy Unit and adaptations to an existing structure to provide accommodation for the holding of meat hygiene classes. This work, costing about £11,900, is also in progress and will be completed this summer.

Can the Minister say whether these works will provide additional accommodation for students? Will the College be able to handle a greater annual intake of students?

I do not think so but I am not too sure about it.
