Vol. 202 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Forestry.

43.

andMr. Ormonde asked the Minister for Lands if he will acquire the estate of Michael Gough, Graigueavilla, Rathcormack, Carrickon-Suir, County Tipperary, containing some 475 acres of land suitable for forestry and some 75 acres suitable for forest nurseries; and if, in view of the redundancy of some forestry workers in the area, he will take immediate steps to ensure that any redundant forestry workers in this locality will be continued in employment.

The lands in question will be inspected shortly to determine whether they are suitable for forestry purposes. There is no redundancy at the State forest in the area at the present time.

44.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands if, in respect of thirty-six forestry workers at Mountain Lodge, Sheeheenarinka, Burncourt, County Tipperary, who are now coming under advisory notice to seek alternative employment, he will consider some deployment of this labour force to the clearance of fifty acres of trees between the main road and the hostel, which have now been threatened by scrub-growth, the clearance of which might give employment to several men for some months.

No redundancy is likely to arise at this forest before October, 1963.

The area to which the Deputy presumably refers is an old woodland area and any maintenance work required therein would have no material effect on the employment situation.

45.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands if the employees at the nursery at Shanbally, County Tipperary are in receipt of a full bonus scheme; and, if not, why.

The full incentive bonus scheme as applied at all State forests throughout the country is being operated at the State forest nursery at Shanbally, County Tipperary.
