Vol. 204 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ambulance Services.

2.

asked the Minister for Health if he will ensure that ambulance drivers are provided with accommodation at the hospital which provides the service; or, alternatively, if he will ensure that they can be in direct telephonic communication to arrange for an immediate despatch of the ambulance in case of emergencies.

I fully agree with the Deputy as to the necessity to have means of speedy communication with ambulance drivers who may be called to attend accident or other emergency cases. My information is that most of the ambulance drivers are on the telephone or live beside the ambulance base. Health authorities have been urged to provide telephones in the small number of cases in which this has not already been done.
