The arterial road grant is for works on the major traffic route in the county, the Cork-Dublin road (T.6). Subject to the prescribed conditions, it is for Cork County Council to decide in the first instance on the distribution of the remaining improvement grants and to select the works to be carried out under them, but no proposals have yet been submitted to the Department in the matter. Particulars are also awaited of the amount which the council propose to spend in 1963/64 on main roads out of local funds, including rates. Half of approved rates expenditure on main road maintenance will be recouped to the council under the main road upkeep grant.
