Vol. 205 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fethard (Tipperary) Garda Station.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason, if any, for the delay in the erection of the new Garda station at Fethard, County Tipperary; and if, in view of the very poor condition of the existing buildings and of the need for accommodation for unmarried Gardaí, he will take the necessary steps to have the station erected immediately.

It had been hoped that tenders for this station, which will consist of an office unit and two houses for married Gardaí, would have been invited before now. Pressure of other urgent work on the architectural staff in the Office of Public Works, who are engaged on the Garda building programme, which involves the erection of over 200 new stations has, unfortunately, caused some delay in the case of Fethard. The preparation of the necessary plans for that centre is, however, in hands and I am advised that tenders for the work will be invited early in the new year.
