asked the Minister for Health whether, having regard to the hardship and poverty of many aged and infirm nurses who are now incapable of carrying out the duties of nursing, he will introduce special pensions for such nurses.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Pensions for Nurses.

Mr. Ryan
I regard it as desirable that, where it can be arranged, all nurses providing public services should have available to them the facility of participating in an adequate super-annuation scheme. I cannot, however, accept the implication in the question that I have ministerial responsibility to provide special pensions for all aged nurses, whether they had been engaged in providing public services or not; but wherever it is within my competence in individual cases, I do my utmost to translate my sympathy into practical help.
