Vol. 205 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delvin (Westmeath) School.

50.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Killough national school, Delvin, County Westmeath, has seventy pupils attending; that the building has only accommodation for fifty; that there are no toilets or water; and that the place is infested with rats; and if, in the circumstances, he will have the matter investigated and a new school erected in the area with the least possible delay.

I am aware that Killough National School is overcrowded and that it is in an unsatisfactory condition. The Commissioners of Public Works have recommended its replacement by a new school. My Department has been asked to investigate the feasibility of replacing this school and another school in the same parish by a new central school. It is hoped to have these investigations completed at an early date.

Is it a parish school?

A central school which will deal with the accommodation requirements now dealt with by two schools.

A parish school?

They are all parish schools, except a few.
