Vol. 205 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subpostmasters' Dispute.

28.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the additional cost to his Department occasioned by the recent withdrawal of labour of subpostmasters.

The information requested is not yet available but if the Deputy will repeat his question in about a month's time I expect to be in a position to reply to it then.

29.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what progress, if any, has been made in the negotiations that have recently taken place between his Department and the Subpostmasters Union.

There have been three meetings with representatives of the Irish Subpostmasters Union. At the last meeting on 14th October it was agreed that the union would submit their proposals on the form negotiating machinery might take and would also give their views on the terms of reference for a commission of inquiry. The union's proposals on negotiating machinery were received on 30th October. These are being examined and it is expected they will be discussed with the union shortly.
