Vol. 206 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Houses to Commercial Organisations.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that large commercial organisations entering this country have been putting extreme pressure on householders in Dublin city to induce them to sell their houses without obtaining adequate alternative accommodation; and whether, in view of the acute housing shortage in Dublin and the fact that such sales result in the transforming of dwellinghouses into commercial premises, he will take steps to discourage this type of sale.

I am not aware of any widespread tendency of the nature referred to by the Deputy. The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act will enable the Dublin Corporation to exercise such control over development, including changes of user, as may be found to be desirable.
