The period in which the provisions of the Finance (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1956 came into operation in relation to the remission of taxation on profits from exports of any Company depends on the first year of claim selected by that Company. Since this varies from Company to Company it is not possible to select definitively any single appropriate year for the information which the Deputy requires. On the whole, however, it appears appropriate to give the data asked for for the calendar year 1956. In that year the value of total exports was £108,126,933. No information is available regarding the number of exporters.
