asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to the County of Kildare (a) the number of applicants for vesting of county council cottages at present outstanding, and (b) the reasons for the delay in vesting.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to the County of Meath (a) the number of applications for vesting of county council cottages at present outstanding, and (b) the reasons for the delay in vesting.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to the County of Westmeath (a) the number of applications for vesting of county council cottages at present outstanding, and (b) the reasons for the delay in vesting.
With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to answer questions Nos. 33, 34 and 35 together. At the 31st March last, the latest date for which details are available in my Department, the numbers of applications for vesting of labourers' cottages on hands were:
Kildare |
Nil |
Meath |
703 |
Westmeath |
436 |
I understand that in County Meath there was a sudden, large increase in applications for vesting about five years ago and that difficulty has been experienced in securing sufficient contractors and tradesmen to carry out cottage repairs prior to vesting, while in County Westmeath vesting has been delayed by the limited amounts provided by the county council to finance cottage repairs.
