Vol. 207 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disability Benefit Appeal.

21.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (name and address supplied) who was being paid disability benefit up to the 7th October last, when such benefit was stopped, entered an appeal against the stoppage; if so, whether her appeal has yet been heard; and, if not, if he will state the reasons for the failure to hear such appeal.

An appeal against the disallowance of disability benefit in this case was duly referred to an Appeals Officer who decided that in the circumstances an oral hearing was necessary. This will take place at Cork within the next few weeks.

The occurrence in the Cork area in recent months of an unusually large number of appeals involving oral hearings precluded an earlier hearing of this case.
