asked the Minister for Education what qualifications in the subjects he or she teaches are required by the Department of a recognised secondary teacher.

The following are the qualifications necessary for recognition as a secondary teacher:—

In the case of Domestic Science, Art, Music or Physical Education the appropriate Teacher's Diploma.

In all other cases a university degree plus an approved post-graduate Diploma in Education.

In addition, every teacher must satisfy the Department's Inspectors that he possesses the requisite knowledge to enable him to teach satisfactorily the subjects assigned to him in the school time-table.
