Vol. 207 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arranmore Island Jetty.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the cause of the delay in erecting a landing jetty at Staca Mór, Arranmore Island, County Donegal.

As I indicated in my reply to the Deputy on 24th October, 1963, it would be undesirable to start work on this exposed island site in winter months and it was intended to defer a start until the spring. It is necessary for the Donegal County Council to acquire a plot of ground above high water line before this work can proceed. I am advised that, although the council have reached agreement with the landowner for the acquisition of the plot, the legal formalities have not yet been completed. If the formalities can be completed without delay work could start soon after Easter.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary ensure this work will commence this spring?

The position is that the Commissioners are awaiting notification of the transfer of the plot to the Donegal County Council. If such notification is received within the next few weeks, we expect to be in a position to start work early in April.
