Vol. 207 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Terenure (Dublin) Factory.

11.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Dublin County Council or his Department have received an application for the approval of plans for the development of the plot of land on the south-west side of Whitehall Park, Terenure, County Dublin opposite to the private residences there; if so, the nature of any proposed development; and if he will ensure that it is not developed in a manner which would interfere with the amenities of the neighbourhood.

I understand that a developer informed the planning authority some months ago that he proposed to erect a factory on the plot of land immediately to the south-west of Whitehall Park, Terenure, and that he was advised by the planning authority that it would be necessary for him to submit plans of the proposed development together with an application for town planning permission and bye-law approval.

Mr. Ryan

Could the Minister say whether, in fact, he submitted these complaints?

Nothing further has been heard from the gentleman.

12.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state with reference to a factory which has been erected at Whitehall Park, Terenure, County Dublin whether planning permission was given, and, if so, when and by whom; and if not, the present position regarding application for permission; and whether objections to the erection of the factory were made by owners of adjoining private residences; and, if so, whether, having regard to those objections, steps will be taken to have the factory demolished.

I assume the Deputy's question relates to an extension to an existing structure which was carried out some time last year. Permission for this extension was refused by the planning authority on 30th May last. An appeal against that refusal was lodged in my Department and is at present under consideration. An objection from a local resident to the erection of the extension has been received and will be considered in conjunction with the appeal.

Pending the outcome of the appeal, it is not possible to say what further action may be open to the planning authority in this matter.

Mr. Ryan

Could the Minister say whether or not this extended structure crosses the land referred to in Question No. 11?

I am afraid I cannot.

Mr. Ryan

Would the Minister be good enough to see that inquiries are made in that regard because my information is that a structure, in the statement called a factory, has been erected on this land, which was reserved in the plan for residential purposes.

I really do not think that comes within my consideration of this question. I can only add that the prohibition order was made last June by the Corporation and a declaration of unlawfulness was also made on 20th June in respect of the extension referred to.
