Vol. 208 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Market Reports.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what arrangements he is making to secure the widest possible publicity for the cattle market reports; and if he is satisfied that present arrangements are satisfactory.

A report on the numbers and prices of animals offered for sale at the Dublin Cattle Market is broadcast each Wednesday by Radio Éireann at 1.40 p.m., at 6.20 p.m. and at 8.30 p.m. A similar report is broadcast each Tuesday at 1.40 p.m. and at 6.20 p.m. in respect of the Dublin Attested Store Cattle Sales held on that day. No complaints have been received about this service.

Is the Minister aware that a considerable number of farmers now have no radio sets but have television sets? That is the complaint.

As I said, we have got no complaint of any kind. The use of television for this purpose could be considered. However, Telefís Éireann do not come on the air until 5.30 p.m., and that would mean the lack of the two broadcasts given by Radio Éireann. In addition, while Telefís Éireann have increasing connections with the rural community, they have not yet the same connection as the radio.

The Minister will agree it is an increasing connection? tion?

Will he accept this as a complaint and use his influence to have the report made available on Telefís Éireann in future?

We can consider that.
