asked the Minister for Finance if there has been any change in the system of accounting or dates of payment of expenditure from the Exchequer as between this financial year and last year, with particular reference to the increased revenue of £18.5 million compared to increased expenditure of only £12.7 million up to the 22nd February in each year allowing for the receipt from retrospective Corporation Profits Tax and moneys taken from Revenue Balances.

There has been no change in the system. Revenue receipts rose by £17.5 million in the period referred to. The smaller expenditure increase of £12.7 million was due to casual variation in the dates of substantial payments, notably the Road Fund Grants.
