asked the Minister for Finance if he will now arrange for a substantial increase in the pensions payable to retired members of the Garda Síochána in view of the increase in the cost of living; and if he is aware that a very special case can be made for a generous increase in view of the loyal service rendered to the State from the days of its foundation by such retired members.

Increases in pensions of former members of the Garda Síochána can be considered only in conjunction with increases in public service pensions generally and, in that connection, I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 3 March, 1964, to Deputies Rooney, Tully and Corish.
