Vol. 208 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Garda Station.

53.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of the proposal to erect a Garda station at Ballyfermot, Dublin, whether a site has yet been selected; if so, where, and when building will commence.

A site at Ballyfermot Road has been selected for the new station and the Commissioners of Public Works are taking up with Dublin Corporation the question of its acquisition.

Pending the acquisition and survey of the site I cannot give any indication as to when building operations will commence.

Mr. Ryan

Can the Minister tell me the location of the site, as asked for in the original question?

Not at this stage, no. I shall keep the Deputy informed.

Mr. Ryan

If the site has been selected, surely it is possible to say where in Ballyfermot it is? I take it that the Minister has the information in his supplementary brief. I now ask him for the information. I shall not try to beat the local Fianna Fáil cumann for the lease of it.

You might try to do it.

Mr. Ryan

I have not the money. Where is it?

Ballyfermot Road.

Mr. Ryan

Ballyfermot Road is from 2½ to 3 miles long. Where precisely on this long thoroughfare is this site?

In so far as the Deputy is a member of Dublin Corporation, he is, in fact, one of the people selling the site.

Mr. Ryan

That is beside the point. People are entitled to know the location of this site. Please tell us, as a matter of courtesy.

I shall send the Deputy a map.

Might I be helpful? Is this site anywhere near Ballyfermot post office?

It is not too far from County Kildare.
