Vol. 208 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dingle Peninsula Water Supply.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the cause of the delay in sanctioning the water supply scheme for the Gaeltacht area of Dingle peninsula, which was sent to his Department some time ago; and if this scheme will be sanctioned soon, so that Kerry County Council may make arrangements to meet their share of the total cost of £300,000.

The proposal referred to comprises about 24 individual water supply schemes and extensions in the Kerry Gaeltacht areas. Proposals were submitted in respect of only seven schemes and these were approved without any delay.

A loan of £300,000 as proposed, could not be dealt with until all the schemes involved had been submitted and approved in principle. Arrangements are accordingly being made for the issue of a loan from the Local Loans Fund of an amount calculated to cover the net cost of the schemes actually submitted and approved.

The remaining questions for oral answer will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
