The preliminary report relating to the Lough Mourne Regional Water Supply Scheme was approved in principle on 12th April, 1951, when Mr. Cormac Breslin was chairman of the county council. The final contract documents were approved on 17th November, 1954, when Mr. S. A. Baxter was chairman. The consulting engineer for the scheme was Mr. N. O'Dwyer and the county engineer was Mr. D.P. Barry.
