Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny NFA Rate Campaign.

1.

asked the Taoiseach whether his attention has been drawn to suggestions in the press and elsewhere to the effect that the recent Kilkenny NFA rate campaign was suspended as a result of certain undertakings or promises made by him to the NFA; whether any such undertaking or promise was, in fact, made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen a recent report in one provincial newspaper that certain concessions were promised by me to the National Farmers' Association to secure the calling-off of their campaign against payment of rates in County Kilkenny. There is no truth in this report.

I refer the Deputy to the statement which I made in Dáil Éireann on 12th December, 1963 (Volume 206, Column 1219). The question which arose for discussion with the NFA in this connection related solely to the matter of future relations with that organisation.
