Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - OECD Convention.

12.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what countries have, since a reply to Question 14 of 4th July, 1961, ratified the Convention on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development; and whether the ratification of any, and if so what, country is awaited.

In addition to the five countries mentioned in my reply of 4th July, 1961, fifteen countries have since ratified the Convention, namely, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. The position, therefore, is that all of the twenty original signatories have now ratified the Convention.

By a decision of the Council of OECD on 26th July, 1963, Japan was invited to become a Member of the Organisation but the Japanese Government has not yet acceded to the Convention.

Does the Minister know if it is intended to ask anyone else?

There is no pending suggestion?

No. There are two observers there but there are no new applications or suggestions for membership.
