Mr. Pattison

asked the Minister for Education if he will state, with regard to his Department's scheme for reference libraries in national schools, to what counties it is proposed to extend this scheme during (a) 1964 and (b) 1965; and if he will state the names of (i) the fundamental reference books supplied to each school, and (ii) the books on the optional list from which the school may select books.

I have not yet decided to what counties it is proposed to extend the national schools' reference library scheme in the years 1964 and 1965.

There are 18 works on the basic list of books to be supplied to each school; the optional list contains over 200 titles and will be expanded as more suitable books become available. Particulars of these books are given in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have included in the Official Report.
