Vol. 209 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilronan (Galway) Pier.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position in relation to the proposed extension of and improvements to the pier at Kilronan, Aran, County Galway.

Site investigation at Kilronan, Aran, County Galway, has been carried out but study of the results by the Office of Public Works engineers has not yet been completed. In particular the most suitable and economic from of foundation for the proposed extension must be determined. When the design has been completed, a report with detailed estimate of costs will be furnished to Roinn na Gaeltachta. Progress with the preliminary work has been slower than expected. The engineer dealing with the case, I regret to say, died suddenly last week and arrangements have to be made to re-assign his work. His successor will have to familiarise himself with the scheme and there will necessarily be some delay in furnishing the report with estimate of cost to Roinn na Gaeltachta.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when it is hoped to have the matter finalised?

I cannot say. We are doing the best we can.
