Vol. 209 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Achill (Mayo) Coast Erosion.

15.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that owing to coast erosion at Dooagh, Achill, County Mayo the inhabitants of five dwellinghouses situated between the two rivers on the shore coast are constantly in danger at high tide of losing their lives and their property; and if he will take immediate steps to have a protecting wall erected between the rivers at a distance of approximately 200 yards.

Under the Coast Protection Act 1963, the promotion of a protection scheme is a matter for the local authority. No proposals for a scheme under the Act have been received by the Commissioners of Public Works from the Mayo County Council.
