Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Council of Europe Resolution.

38.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Resolution No. 276 on the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 24th April, 1964; and whether the Government will participate in the work of the Centre.

Resolution 276 adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 24th April last was recently considered by the Committee of Ministers at Deputy level. It was agreed that the countries which had signed the Agreement of 21st May, 1962, establishing the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies should be requested to ratify the Agreement as soon as possible.

Those responsible for carrying out the work of the Institute have been required to indicate to the Committee of Ministers the nature of the work undertaken by the Institute to date, what its future programme is to be, and the manner in which the Institute itself considers that those member countries of the Council of Europe which are not signatory to the Agreement can most appropriately participate in the work of the Centre. When this information becomes available the Government will examine the possibility of participating in that work as suggested in Resolution 276.
