Vol. 211 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Processing Subsidy.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has considered the advisability of providing a subsidy for the meat factories in this country to encourage greater processing of meat and to provide much needed employment in the areas in which such factories are situated.

I dealt with these matters fully in my replies to questions asked in this House on 5th and 10th March.

I may add that, according to the latest trade returns, exports of beef, mutton and lamb, pork and bacon, in the first four months of 1964 showed in each case an increase as compared with the same period of 1963.

It is not necessary to slaughter any more calves.
