Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of 1916 Commemoration Stamp.

50.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has given consideration to the proposal that he publish a range of stamps in a colourful and artistic style to commemorate each of the signatories of the Proclamation of the Republic on the fiftieth anniversary of this historic occasion; what action, if any, he has taken on the proposal; and if they could be printed in the Stamping Branch, Dublin Castle.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes" but no decisions have yet been reached. At this stage I am not in a position to give a positive reply to the latter part of the question.

Could the Minister tell me if, in fact, new machinery has been purchased which is capable of printing more colourful stamps?

Yes, it has.

Did the Minister buy Irish when he bought this machinery?

I do not know, but I doubt it.

I doubt it, too. He went to Czechoslovakia, behind the Iron Curtain, to buy it.
