Vol. 212 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mass X-Ray Units.

3.

asked the Minister for Health the total number of mass X-ray units now available for diagnostic purposes in the Republic; and where they are now centred.

The Mass-Radiography Board, who provide a mass X-ray service for all health authorities, except Cork, at present operate seven mass X-ray units. For the purposes of the service the country is divided into five regions, on a geographical basis. Two units are assigned to the Dublin Region and one unit is assigned to each of the other four regions, viz. Leinster Region (Headquarters, Dublin), North West Region (Headquarters, Sligo), South East Region (Headquarters, Waterford) and South West Region (Headquarters, Limerick). The remaining unit is engaged entirely on community survey work throughout the country.

The Cork Health Authority has its own mobile mass X-ray unit.
