Vol. 213 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Housing Grants.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a new house grant is available to the holder of a small farm under £25 valuation who engages in part-time work outside of farming.

In order to qualify for the higher rate of grant, an applicant of the class in question must be able to show that he is in need of re-housing and that the major portion of his income is derived from the pursuit of agriculture.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction payment of housing and reconstruction grants to people who cannot have a water supply laid on, as there are six such applicants in County Leitrim unable to have such water supply.

Each application for a grant for the erection of a non-serviced house is considered on its merits and if, on investigation, I am satisfied that, because of exceptional circumstances, services cannot reasonably be provided, a grant for a non-serviced house may be allowed.

The provision of a water supply is not a requirement in reconstruction grant cases.
