The estimated average number of persons in insurable employment, based on social insurance stamps sold, was 489,800 in 1950, 481,300 in 1960 and 503,100 in 1963. The figure for the twelve months ended 30th September, 1964, was 515,500. These figures are subject to the qualifications stated on pages 21 and 22 of Economic Statistics, Budget, 1964, and their comparability is affected by the changes in the relevant legislation since 1950.
