The number of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance and the estimated number of their dependants on 25th July, 1964, the latest date at which figures for dependants are available, were, respectively, 10,610 and 26,991 including 7,866 adult dependants. It is necessary to mention that these figures relate to a time when the level of applications was affected by the operation of the annual Employment Period Orders. A different ratio between dependants and recipients emerges when the level of applications is not so affected. Thus, the figures for the 30th November, 1963, are: recipients—18,314; dependants— 32,806, including 9,707 adult dependants.
The number of recipients of unemployment assistance as at 27th November, 1964, was 17,989, but the numbers of dependants for that date are not yet available.
