asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount paid to blind pensioners in each of the years since 1957.

The basic weekly rate of blind pension was raised from 24/-to 25/- on 17th May, 1957; to 27/6d. on 7th August, 1959; to 28/6d. on 5th August, 1960; to 30/- on 4th August, 1961; to 32/6d. on 3rd August, 1962; to 35/- on 1st November, 1963; and to 37/6d. on 7th August, 1964.

Allowances for dependent children were introduced to the Old Age and Blind Pensions code for the first time in November last; since then increased payments are being made to blind pensioners at the rate of 10/- a week for each of the first two qualified children and 5/- for each additional qualified child.
