Vol. 214 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Vocational Committee Officers.

50.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has received an application from the chief executive officers of the vocational education committees in regard to (1) a revision of their salaries and (2) the setting up of conciliation and arbitration machinery; and whether any decision has been reached in connection with their application.

A letter has issued from my Department to vocational education committees authorising the award of revised salary scales to chief executive officers.

Has the Minister, however, looked at Part (2) of the question which inquiries as to whether conciliation and arbitration machinery is to be provided?

It is still under discussion with the CEOs. I have no doubt some machinery will be available shortly but I am not in a position to give a definite answer.

Will the approach be between the CEOs and the Department or the CEOs and the county committees?

Between the CEOs and the Department. I hope to have that type of machinery established.

The Minister speaks of machinery, not conciliation and arbitration. Is there any significance in that?

No significance except that I am not in a position to give an answer. I always refer to these things as machinery.
