Vol. 215 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Swimming Pool.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of any proposal by Dublin Corporation to provide a swimming pool for Ballyfermot, Dublin.

Mr. O'Malley

No proposal to provide a swimming pool at Ballyfermot has been submitted to me but I understand that the question is at a preliminary stage as an item in the Corporation's planned programme for new swimming pools.

Would the Minister agree that it is a shocking disgrace in a community where there are 35,000 working-class people, a community that has been in existence now for about 15 years, there is not that single amenity when £16,000 is known to cover it?

Mr. O'Malley

I could not agree more. The Minister has made 17 speeches urging local authorities to avail themselves of the very beneficial arrangements with regard to loan charges in connection with the provision of swimming pools.

Would the Minister use his influence with the Corporation to get the scheme initiated?

Talk with the man beside you, Deputy Ryan, who is a member of the Corporation.

He never goes near it.
