Vol. 215 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Group Water Scheme.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the up-to-date position of the Newcastle-Oldcastle, County Meath group water scheme.

About 40 per cent of the participants' cash contributions has been collected to date. The organiser of the scheme was notified on 26th April that the design of the scheme would be proceeded with when the balance of the local contribution had been collected.

When was the last meeting of the group with the Departmental official?

I am afraid I have not that information immediately available.

I know it, but maybe the Minister would find out for his own information.

You tell him.

In some cases where schemes have started, individuals and groups are instructed to collect money. Nobody contacts them for months and months and the money is given back because the people concerned believe the schemes are abandoned. Would the Minister not see to it that some person acts as liaison between the groups, the Department and the local authorities concerned?

I understand that a representative is selected by the group at the outset and that he in fact is the liaison between the different bodies concerned and the group. If this system is not operated, I am surprised because it is supposed to operate. I shall try to find out.
