Vol. 215 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Pensionable Servants.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is a fact that a local authority servant pensionable under Part III of the Local Government Superannuation Act, 1956, who was in continuous employment of that local authority prior to the adoption of Part III, but as a temporary officer, is not given credit for his service as a temporary officer when his pensionable service is being calculated.

The position is as stated by the Deputy. Service as a temporary officer is not reckonable as pensionable service. The only circumstances in which such service can be taken into account for pension purposes is where it was continuous with and immediately preceded service as a pensionable permanent officer. In that case credit is allowable for part of the temporary service in the calculation of the officer's superannuation award.
