Vol. 215 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Assurance Company Ground Rents.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what are the gross annual ground rents payable to the Irish Life Assurance Company, Limited; and what is the estimated capital value of those rents.

The available information relating to the Company's investments in ground rents may be ascertained from the Company's statutory returns which are available in the Companies Registration Office and may be inspected on payment of the prescribed fee. Copies of these returns are also presented to each House of the Oireachtas.

Insurance companies are not required, however, to supply separate figures relating to their annual income from ground rents.

Has the Minister any details about this at all?

We are going to abolish them.

When? Do we have an assurance from the Minister for Agriculture that ground rents are going to be abolished? Would the Minister say something for the record rather than nod his head?

Ground rents will be abolished.
