Vol. 215 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Estates.

37.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Trench Estate, Lorrha, County Tipperary was sold some little time ago to a person (name supplied) at a time when the Land Commission were contemplating the acquisition of this estate; and whether the present owner has disposed of any of the lands of the estate recently.

The lands of Redwood containing some 338 acres—to which the Question presumably refers —were purchased by the person mentioned over 3 years ago, that is in February, 1962, at a time when acquisition proceedings by the Land Commission were not pending or contemplated. In 1963, an area of 58 acres approximately was sold with the consent of the Land Commission to a local purchaser.

38.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Cahalan Estate, Ballymacegan, County Tipperary, which has been acquired by the Land Commission, will be divided.

Composite resale proposals are envisaged for this 236 acre Estate and an adjoining property, containing over 400 acres, which has also been acquired by the Land Commission. The Deputy will appreciate that, with an aggregate area of some 650 acres involved, considerable inquiries on the ground are necessary before a scheme of division can be formulated. There will be no avoidable delay in the disposal of the lands.
