Vol. 216 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Docks Disturbances.

45.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the recent disturbances in the area of Dublin Docks, he will state if any special measures have been taken by the Gardaí to ensure that there will be no repetition of such disturbances; and if he will make a general statement on the matter.

The North Wall Extension is the property of the Dublin Port and Docks Board and is patrolled by the Harbour Police employed by the Board. The services of the Garda Síochána are made available as and when required, to deal with particular problems or incidents.

The docks area generally had been free of serious disturbance for several years. Special attention has, of course, been given to the possibility of further incidents.

In view of the fact that several persons are before the courts on a murder charge, I do not think it would be appropriate to make any further reference to the matter.
