Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Board of Works Tenders.

20.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the system of public tendering in operation by the Office of Public Works.

Tenders are invited through public press advertisement for building and constructional works estimated to cost £1,500 and over in the Dublin and Cork city areas, and £500 and over in the remainder of the country. For works estimated to cost less than these amounts competitive tenders are invited directly from known suitable local contractors.

Tenders for supplies are invited through public press advertisements except where the estimated cost of the supplies is less than £1,000, or where the number of suitable suppliers is known to be limited. In such cases competitive tenders are invited directly.

In the placing of contracts the practice is to accept the lowest suitable tender.
